Don’t overlook the power of suggestion.
The concept of one-click upsells has been heavily researched over the years, and marketing tactics like the one-click upsell have built around it. Customers are at the height of their excitement right after they check out. That is the exact moment to provide more value.
If you skip out on the one-click upsell offer, you could be losing a ton of sales. ith events like Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Christmas coming up, this strategy could be the difference between a break-even campaign and a $100k weekend!
What is it?
It’s an easy way for your customers to buy something you already know they want.
It’s a button they can click to get a second product right at the peak of their excitement after checkout for the first product.
That’s a big deal!
This is because your business is now generating potentially double the revenue and providing double the value to your customers.

The idea of the one-click upsell is nothing new. This tactic has a long and impressive track record of successfully making another sale.
It works because you have data to work with and you can make a very educated guess around the value of this upsell offer:
- You know that your new customer already trusts your business and your brand because they paid for a product just moments ago.
- You know the pain points they have based on the value that the first product provides.
- You know that they are in the mood to purchase because they are already in your store with their wallet or credit card in hand.
Most importantly, you know who they are already, so you can make it EASY by presenting them with a simple button to purchase the second product.
If you aren’t itching to add a one-click upsell into your sales funnel just yet, just wait until I tell you that Amazon attributes 38% of its revenue to this strategy. Amazing!
Setup A One-Click Upsell In Infusionsoft
Okay, let’s do it. We’re going to use Infusionsoft as the platform this time, but you should be able to put something like this in place no matter what system you use. Just follow along and let us know if you get stuck:
Step 1: Login to Infusionsoft and head over to the eCommerce section. You will need to create your core offer product and your upsell product if you haven’t already. If this is your first time using Infusionsoft eCommerce, you’ll need to setup a few basics like configuring your merchant account and choosing an order form template, as well as creating an order form for each product.
Step 2: Before we build the campaign automation, we need to prepare an action set. Head over to the “CRM→Settings and click on “Action Sets.” Click “Add an Action Set” and name it something like “[upsell product name] purchase.” Now, choose to “Create an Order” from the drop-down (it’s at the bottom) and then “save this action.” Type the name of your upsell product and select it from the drop-down. Click the “Add” button to the right. Click “save” and then “save” again, and you’ve made an action set!
Step 3: Let’s head over to the Campaign Builder. We are assuming that you already have a campaign to promote your products. Your campaign needs a webform. Drag and drop the webform icon onto the canvas and double click on it to open up the design. Delete both the “first name” field and the “email field.” Then, drag over a hidden field snippet and select “email” from the dropdown. That’s right, this is going to be a hidden webform containing only the hidden email address. The email field will populate automatically from the checkout process that the contact just went through. The submit button will become the easy “buy now” button beneath the offer for the upsell product.
Step 4: Drag over a sequence and drop it right after the webform goal. When the webform is submitted, contacts will automatically enter this sequence. This is where you need the “action set” we created earlier. Drag one over and double click on it. Now you can find the name of the action set you created in step two and save it.
Step 5: Once your sequence and webform are complete, switch them into “ready” mode and publish the campaign. Send the webform code to your developer with instructions to use it as an invisible form that auto-populates on your upsell product’s sales page (which is also the core offer products’ post-checkout thank-you page). In order to make the invisible form auto-populate with the email address, your developer will need to pass the email address from the checkout pages through to this thank-you/upsell page. Tell them that the button should read “buy now” and should lead to your upsell product’s order form.
Step 6: The last step is to paste the thank-you/upsell page URL into the core offer order form. Don’t forget to create a thank-you page for the upsell order form, as well.
